Schools met AI from the wrong direction: pupils used it before institutions had a position on it. That order matters, because it means most settings are managing a risk before they have captured a benefit.
The benefit is real and mostly sits in workload. Gradescope and CoGrader speed marking, MagicSchool and Diffit cut preparation time, Century adapts practice to a pupil. What each depends on is consistency — assessment criteria applied the same way by different teachers, and a curriculum record that reflects what was actually taught.
Culture & Skills carries the joint-highest weight here. Staff confidence and training determine whether these tools reduce workload or add a checking burden on top of it, and safeguarding and academic integrity policy is a staff capability question before it is a software one.
This assessment asks what is true of your assessment practice, your policies and your systems, and then tells you which education AI tools your current position supports — and, where it does not, exactly what is in the way.
Most questions ask which of four specific things are true of your operation — a document that exists, a check that is recorded, a person who owns something. They are matters of fact rather than opinion, and they are written for your industry rather than adapted from a generic template. Four of them, one from each dimension:
You tick what is true. Nothing asks you to rate how good you are, and three of the four dimensions carry no self-rating at all — which is why the score is hard to talk your way past.
Every industry is scored against its own targets. Culture & Skills and Governance & Agility carry the most weight here, so a gap in either costs more than the same gap would elsewhere.
Your report says which of these to buy now, which to wait on, and which are held back by something you have not fixed yet — and which of the ones you already pay for are not yet at full value.
