Most dental AI arrives as radiograph analysis. Pearl, Overjet and VideaHealth read an image and mark what they find, and they work — but what they mark is only as good as the imaging standard behind it, and a dentist still has to agree with the read before it informs a treatment plan.
The harder question is what happens either side of the image. Recall and reactivation tools send messages off the patient record; treatment-plan presentation assembles charting and costing in front of the patient. Each of those depends on records being complete rather than approximately complete, and on the practice having agreed how notes and charting are entered in the first place. Automating a recall list nobody owns simply reaches the wrong patients faster.
There is also a supervision question the software will not raise. A clinician who accepts an AI-drafted note without reading it has still signed the record, and a practice that cannot say who checked what has a governance gap rather than a technology one.
